e-Rapport
The latest edition of e-Rapport, our digital magazine, is available to read online or download from our website - just click on 'read more'. In this edition we are highlighting the Health & Safety awareness campaign that Nationwide will be running during October. It's a really important subject and we'd urge everyone to take time to think more about the issues. We're particularly concerned about workplace stress and have asked the Society to review and raise awareness of the support that's available. We also report on Nationwide's response to the bullying survey we conducted last year and on our visit to the National Bullying Helpline in Swindon.
Rep Elections
We are seeking nominations for members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Constituency Representatives for the 2010/2011 term of office. The role of Representative is becoming an increasingly important part of the Union's consultation mechanisms - both with members and Nationwide management. Some Representatives are now participating in the Employee Involvement Business Committees and having direct input into the consultation process for change programmes - so by becoming a Rep you really can make a difference to the working environment in your area and across the Society.

Tim Poil elected to TUC General Council
Tim Poil, NGSU General Secretary, was re-elected to the TUC General Council at Congress held in Liverpool last month. Tim, along with President Bill Blumsom and Associate Member Rob Goldspink attended Congress on behalf of NGSU.

The NGSU Conference will be held next week in Daventry. Representatives from across the country will debate 29 motions covering issues about performance management and terms and conditions. Tony Prestedge, Executive Director, will give a presentation to delegates and will be joined for a Questions and Answer session by John Wrighthouse, DD Human Resources and Graeme Hughes, DD Branch Network.

A full report about Conference will be featured in the December edition of Rapport Magazine.
Pay Gap in the Finance Sector
Women in some of the UK’s leading finance companies receive around 80% less in performance related pay than their male colleagues, an inquiry by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)
has found. The disparity is a major factor behind the massive gender pay gap in the finance sector.

The research conducted with 50 companies in the sector reveals nearly all women taking up new jobs start on lower average salaries than men, suggesting the gender pay gap is being further entrenched by recruitment patterns. The report also suggests that the sector’s age profile may be a key factor blocking women’s success. An unusually high proportion of workers in the sector fall into the 25-39 age group — the age at which women tend to have childcare responsibilities pushed on them.
