NEC - Branch Vacancies
The majority of the positions for the Union's National Executive Committee (NEC), for the 2010/11 term of office, have been filled. However, we still have four National Regional Officer (NRO) vacancies in the Branch Network, these are for: Retail North; Retail Central; Retail South-West and Retail London.

The NEC is responsible for the overall implementation of Union policy and strategy. It is very important therefore that views of members across the branch network are properly represented at the NEC to ensure action taken by the Union addresses their needs.

For more information please call Bill Blumsom, NGSU President, on 01295 710767. Details of the NEC appointments for 2010/2011 can be found in Union Mail.
Your Legal Rights
Your Legal Rights is a new on-line service for NGSU members. Provided by Russell Jones & Walker Solicitors the website helps explain your rights in a variety of situations and helps take the mystery out of what you can and cannot do in a general easy to understand way with fact sheets you can print and take away. You may need to take legal advice to help with your particular issue afterwards but at least you will know what you can expect and what to do next.

Your Legal Rights also offers a number of legal documents that can assist in a wide range of circumstances from writing your Will to contracting with your builder or complaining to a restaurant.

As an NGSU member you are entitled to a discount across the whole range of documents ranging from 10% to 30% depending on the document.

Will (no legal review) 30%
Will (legal review) 21%
All other documents 10%

From 1 January 2010 a new telephone helpline from RJW will also be available.
ATM Payments
Details about new arrangements for claiming ATM Servicing payments have been issued this month. In anticipation of further questions from members we have posted some more information on our website to clarify a number of issues.

ATM payments are a contractual overtime entitlement - employees who are eligible should claim 15 minutes overtime for each ATM serviced. Time-Off-In-Lieu (TOIL) can be claimed for any other work an employee is required to do before their contracted starting time.
World Aids Day - 1 Dec 2009
Every 77 minutes, somebody in the UK is diagnosed with HIV.

World AIDS Day is a time for campaigners around the world to come together raise the profile of the vital work done with people living with, and affected by, HIV. Tradition is to wear a red ribbon, as a mark of respect and solidarity.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007 and an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007 making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007 of which about 270,000 were children.
Union Energy
Union Energy is an energy price comparison site owned by the TUC. Unlike most other energy price comparison sites, Union Energy offers a 100% impartial service and includes tariffs for every energy company active in the UK market for maximum choice. Customers therefore have all options available to them, be it standard gas and electricity paid by direct debit, single fuels, green energy, capped rate products, etc. supplied by smaller niche energy companies as well as ‘the big six’.

Customers also have the option to register for Union Energy’s Ongoing Monitoring Programme enabling them to set their own savings parameters. This means that when energy prices rise or fall, customers will be re-contacted as soon as they can save whatever sum they have specified, e.g. £75 per annum, by moving to another supplier. This service ensures that customers will benefit from ongoing savings for the long term.

To find out how much you could save by switching energy suppliers go to www.unionenergy.co.uk or call 0800 094 9039.
